The Trustees and Finance Committee would like to take this opportunity to update the parishioners of Corpus Christi Parish on the financial health of our parish now that we have begun to emerge from the depths of the COVID pandemic of late 2020 and early 2021. Our in-person mass attendance continues to normalize as summer comes to a close. We are expecting more activities to begin to normalize this fall with our religious education students being on site this fall, and we are planning for a CYO basketball season this winter as well, with the safety of all in mind. We also hope to have a return of our carnival next spring.
Comparing our June 30, 2021, fiscal year to our pre-COVID June 30, 2019, fiscal year we would highlight the following:
Total Operating Revenues were down 13%, primarily impacted by in-person Sunday collections (50% of the difference), the Christmas collection, lower religious education attendance, a lack of a CYO basketball season and no Spring Carnival.
Total Operating Expenses were down 12%, primarily through the management of Salaries & Benefits and managing the operations of Corpus Christi more efficiently during the pandemic. Father Kevin and the entire Parish staff did an excellent job controlling costs during the uncertain times of the pandemic.
Fiscal 2021 ended with a slight operating deficit of $14,936.00.
Our expectation for Fiscal 2022 is for Sunday & Christmas collections to normalize relative to 2019, attendance for religious education to increase to pre-pandemic levels and activities such as CYO Basketball and the Carnival to drive activities back to our campus.
We received a one-time bequest which allowed us to launch our virtual Mass and communication ministry this past year. In addition, the parish commissioned a property condition report which identified immediate and longer-term property repairs. Your generosity will help us to begin to address these needs.
Father Kevin, Fr. Michael, the Parish Trustees, the Parish Finance Council, and the Staff are incredibly thankful to all of our parishioners who continued to financially support Corpus Christi throughout the pandemic. Our online weekly giving continues to increase as a percentage of Sunday collections and restricted donations continue to exceed expectations each year. We need your continued support as we move forward. Overall, the financial health of Corpus Christi Parish remains strong. Thank you!
